How we handle information when you use specvora.com and www.specvora.com.

Who we are

SpecVora is an independent PC-planning website operated by Jamie Everitt, the controller responsible for the personal information handled by SpecVora. For privacy questions or requests, Click here to email.

Your PC details and searches

You can use our tools without creating an account. PC comparisons and build calculations run in your browser. The current tools do not upload the CPU, graphics card, RAM, video memory, free drive space or budget you enter to a SpecVora profile database. We do not automatically scan your computer.

Game searches use our own catalogue. Some pages also try a search endpoint on this website; a search term or game identifier may therefore appear in a request to our hosting service. Game identifiers may appear in page links. Avoid entering personal or confidential information in search fields.

What stays in your browser

We use local storage to provide features you choose. These values are not advertising identifiers and are not synced between devices or between the www and non-www addresses.

  • Saved PC: selecting “Save PC” stores the component details you entered on that browser. Use “Forget saved PC” on the PC Checker to remove them.
  • Favourite games: selecting a game's save button stores its catalogue identifier. Use the same button to remove a favourite.
  • Currency: choosing a currency stores your preference. The initial suggestion uses your browser language or device timezone, without requesting GPS location.
  • Offline cache: a service worker stores copies of pages, scripts, icons and public reference data to help the website load during connection problems.

Local storage has no expiry set by SpecVora. It remains until you remove it, your browser clears it or the site replaces it. Cached files are refreshed or replaced as the site changes and may also be removed by your browser. Clear site data in your browser settings to remove all of these items; clear both domain addresses if you have used both. Blocking storage may prevent saved features or offline access from working.

Page-view counts

We count successful page requests to understand which pages are useful. We store only aggregated totals by page path and UK calendar date, without query strings, IP addresses, browser fingerprints or visitor identifiers in the statistics database. This feature does not set cookies or use browser storage. It measures page views, not unique people. Recognised bots, prefetches and signed-in staff visits are excluded where possible. Only authorised staff can view the dashboard. Aggregate totals are retained for historical comparison; they are not individual browsing records. We rely on our legitimate interests in understanding use of the website.

Staff sign-in cookie

Staff sign-in uses a secure, HTTP-only session cookie called sv_staff, lasting up to 12 hours. It is used only to authenticate staff access to the statistics dashboard, not to track public visitors. Signing out removes it. To limit repeated login attempts, we temporarily store a keyed hash of the connecting IP address with an attempt count. This record is not used for analytics and is removed after its rate-limit window expires as login requests are processed.

Cookies, advertising and analytics

Apart from the staff authentication cookie described above, SpecVora's application code does not set cookies. It does not include advertising trackers, third-party analytics scripts or active affiliate links. Browser storage described above supports the tools and preferences you request. Hosting infrastructure may use security-related technologies to deliver and protect the service. We will update this notice and provide any required choices before introducing optional tracking.

Hosting and technical information

The website is hosted through OpenAI's Sites service using Cloudflare infrastructure. To serve pages, maintain security and diagnose errors, the hosting infrastructure may process your IP address, requested URL, request time, browser or device information and technical error details. We use technical information for our legitimate interests in keeping the website available, secure and working correctly.

SpecVora does not maintain a separate visitor-profile database. Infrastructure logs and security records are governed by the hosting providers' applicable retention arrangements; we have not configured a separate fixed retention period for those records. Their services may involve processing outside the UK. More information about their processing and international safeguards is available in the OpenAI privacy policy and Cloudflare privacy policy. Contact us if you need further information about a particular request.

If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. Email is handled through Gmail, provided by Google. Please send only information needed for your enquiry. We use it to respond, resolve problems and handle privacy requests, relying on our legitimate interests in answering enquiries and, where applicable, our legal obligations.

We aim to delete routine correspondence within 12 months after the enquiry is resolved. We may retain relevant records longer where needed for a continuing dispute or a legal obligation. Email providers may retain backups under their own arrangements.

Sharing and external links

We do not sell your personal information. Service providers supporting hosting, security and email may process information to provide those services. We may also disclose information where required by law. Publisher and hardware-source links take you to other websites with their own privacy practices. Currency conversion uses built-in reference rates and does not contact an exchange-rate service.

Your rights

Depending on the information and circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict its use and request portability. You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Click here to email to exercise your rights. We normally respond within one month, and requests are normally free. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. For information stored only in your browser, use the controls described above; we cannot remotely retrieve or erase that local data.

You can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. You may contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our tools or data practices change and show the revision date above. Material changes affecting how we use personal information will be highlighted where appropriate.
